JUST ANNOUCED: Pre-Concert talk with Reena Esmail that is open to all concert ticket holders at 5:30 pm on Saturday, May 10th.
Join the New York Choral Society on May 10, 2025 at the NYU Skirball Center for This Love Between Us, a concert that juxtaposes the past and future of symphonic choral music, and explores powerful cross-cultural messages about the world’s shared humanity.
In this extraordinary evening, J.S. Bach’s radiant Magnificat meets a bold and deeply moving work by Indian-American composer Reena Esmail — This Love Between Us: Prayers for Unity. While Bach’s masterpiece overflows with joy and devotion in the Christian tradition, Esmail’s composition weaves together prayers and texts from seven faith traditions — Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Islam — highlighting universal themes of love, compassion, and understanding. Written in the wake of the divisive 2016 election, Esmail’s music is a powerful call for unity in an increasingly fragmented world.
Under the baton of Music Director David Hayes, the New York Choral Society will bring this stunning program to life, joined by the acclaimed Ensemble LPR, and celebrated artists from Brooklyn Raga Massive, Neel Murgai (sitar) and Tripp Dudley (tabla). The concert also features a stellar lineup of soloists: Liz Lang, soprano; Lucia Bradford, mezzo-soprano; Michael Kuhn, tenor; and Kenneth Overton, baritone.
Join us for an unforgettable evening that celebrates the unifying capacity of choral music.
