KING DAVID
A Theatrical Choral Event
NOVEMBER 22, 2025
Alice Tully Hall
7:30 PM
Spectacular Triumphs. Prophetic Downfalls.
King David is more than a concert; it’s a gripping night of music and drama that brings one of the Bible’s most legendary figures to the stage. With a full chorus, orchestra, lighting effects, and professional actors, this performance tells the story of David’s rise from humble shepherd to powerful king, his triumphs and downfalls, and his search for forgiveness and redemption.
The chorus is at the heart of this production.
Surrounding the action is sweeping, poetic music that moves this powerful story from epic scenes to intimate moments. You’ll hear the sounds of battle, the joy of celebration, and the heartbreak of loss, all woven together by the music of Arthur Honegger, one of the most celebrated composers of his time.

Originally written as music for a play, King David was so powerful it quickly became a concert piece in its own right.
This performance honors that theatrical spirit, with stage direction by Alison Pogorelc, whose work as an Assistant Stage Director at The Metropolitan Opera brings a bold, dramatic touch to the production. This evening is led by led by Music Director David Hayes and soloists include Emma Marhefka (soprano), Cierra Byrd (mezzo soprano), Maximillian Jansen (tenor), and Lee Wilkof (Narrator).
